In reply to query re John Coon b. 1815, Otsego, NY: I'm not sure I can help unless there is a possibility you have ties to those below. Although sorting out my Coon line has truly been difficult, by bits and pieces I have learned the following of my ggg grandfather Joseph S. Coon b. Jan. 31, 1791 and m. to Lydia Coon. Elizabeth Jane Coon who was my gg grandmother and for whom I have death record information was a daughter of Joseph and Lydia Coon. It is believed there were 10 children; however, to date I only have information of those listed below. Is it possible your John Coon b. 1815 could be one of the missing children? My ggg grandfather was JOSEPH S. COON, born 31 Jan 1791 in Rensselaer, New York, and died 1873 in Sandy Creek, Oswego County, NY. He married LYDIA COON 04 Oct 1810, daughter of COON. She was born 05 Mar 1794 in New York, and died 24 Oct 1869 in Sandy Creek, Oswego County, NY. Notes for JOSEPH S. COON: 1850 Census, Geddes, Onondaga Co, NY page 497 Joseph coon, 59, farmer, NY Lydia, 56, NY George, 34, NY Sarah, 24, NY Wm. S., 31, NY Ursula, 17, NY Note: Wife of George Coon listed as Sarah 1850, in 1860 Census as "Sally," in 1870 Census as "Sarah." 1880 LDS lists wife of George as Sally Sweet b. 1826 Rensalear, NY. Comparing census records and Family Search information, my Joseph Coon b. 1791 (died AFTER 1870) m. to Lydia, was father of George Coon b. 1816 Rensalear, NY. (Wife of George was Sarah or Sally Sweet b. 1826 Rensalear, NY.) Marriage of George and Sarah/Sally Sweet abt. 1857, Oneida, NY. I have death records (MI) of my GG Grandmother, Elizabeth Jane Coon Tyrell Dixon, b. 1828 NY, which lists father as Joseph Coon, NY, mother Lydia, NY. Census records below: 1850 Geddes, Onondaga Co. Census lists Joseph,59, Lydia,56, George 34 and Sarah 24 as well as Wm. S. 31 and Ursula 17. 1860 Geddes, Onondaga Co. Census lists Joseph, 69, wife Lydia 66, George 45, Sally 35, children Mary, 9, George 6, and Harriet, 3. 1870 Census, Oswego Co., Sandy Creek, NY lists George Coon age 55, Sarah, age 44, George F. 15, Harriet M., 12, Manerva 5, and Joseph Coon age 79. Additional cemetery information lists George Frank, others buried Fairview Cemetery, Bundyville/Volney, Oswego Co., NY.
