get a good computerized genealogy program the fhl has one u can download for free-we all start with our notebooks, but a few hundred names in, it becomes quite difficult! for those of us who have thousands of names-and we didnt start out to aquire them-this hobby will take on a life of its own -a computer program is a must.
now, the story was, it wasnt "proper" for a single woman to raise a son alone/ well, many of them did. but remember, there was no day care, food stamps, etc etc-all those full orphanages? mostly not true orphans, but kids residing there because the single parent had to work. my grandfather and his siblings were taken in abt 1908 by the society for the prevention of cruelty to children from my grt grandmother when their father abandoned the family, and the 15 yr old sister who watched them, wed. the grtgrandmother PAID room and board on the kids in the orphanage so that they would not be adopted out. my grandfather spent most of the next 6 yrs running away from there, but that is another story. and now the dugans - - -
