Do you have Daniel`s death certificate. If not, there`s a chance it will show his parents names. The Glenville registrar will have the record if he died there. See here:

The 1860, `70 & `80 census shows Daniel`s birth year as about 1840. He is 21 in 1860 in Canajoharie, 20 in 1870 in Hudson, Columbia Co. & 40 in 1880 in Johnstown, Fulton Co.
The only likely candidate for Daniel on the 1850 census is a Josiah Whitney, age 10, in the home of Josiah Whitney, 57, in Canajoharie.
