I am trying to prove that my g-g-g-grandmother, Jane Magee Van Voorhis was the daughter of John Magee and Rachel Walker. John was a Rev. War soldier.
I have spent a lot of wasted time looking for a death record or obituary for Jane in Otsego County where she is buried beside her husband (James). Recently it finally occurred to me that she might have lived with one of her children before her death, and I did indeed find that she died in Carlton, Orleans County on Dec 1, 1890.
Unfortunately when I sent to the state for her death certificate, I said she died in Otsego Co. (The website says the wait is 9-10months so I am in limbo as to whether they'll find anything).
(1)Does the local Carlton town clerk have death records for 1890?
(2)Is there a local newspaper that has back editions microfilmed?
(3)Any other suggestions where I might find more information on her... a library possibly?
