MANY years ago I visited the Surrogates Office in Jamaica. (I now am retired in FL.) My notes from that visit state that the probate records for Nathaniel Renne 1813 were "missing." I can no longer remember if they were officially designated as missing, or if they just couldn't be located when I was there. I does stand to reason that he would have had an estate; he is believed to have been the son of Samuel Renne, one of the wealthier men in Newtown, and Nathaniel died leaving a widow and at least 7 children, the eldest of which was 16-17, i.e. Jane b ca 1796, Thomas b ca 1800, James A., Julia ca 1812, Ester b ca 1813-14, & 1 other female & 1 other male. I descend from Julia who became wife of John VanCott. (I actually have photos of Jane & Thomas, designated as "aunt" and "uncle" by Julia's son.)

I don't mind paying for copies. But I do feel it is unreasonable to have to pay $70+ for someone to check the indexes when I know that probate records are supposed to exist and when I know the date. Do you know of someone who could check the index to which you allude and obtain the appropriate docket number? (Of Samuel too, if his exist. Samuel was still alive in 1790 but dead by 1800.)
Thank you.
