My ggrandfather, Luther Martin Wright of Queens Co. was orphaned in 1870 and put in a Brooklyn Orphanage for about 3 years. He was 3 at the time. Can anyone tell me where I could find the names of orphanages in that area and if it is possible to locate records? I know his father"s name (John) and grandfather (Jonathan) but that is all. John drowned in 1870. He was a fisherman. I would like to know mother's name etc. Other children were Phoebe, Rose, Fred and 2 others. They went to live with relatives as they were older. Not sure of town where they lived but Luther was born in Whitestone, NY.
