linda,hi.
I checked out the 1860 census for Queens and found my 3XGrt Grandfather working on the Coverst farm in the town of Hempstead. His name was George Smith. Born in england in 1836. Came to the U.S. IN 1850 at 14YRS.old.
I lost him in the 1870 cenus in Hempstead. I am trying to find out if he served in the civil war or not.My Grt. Grandfather was born in Hempstead in 1869. Ca't get no records for that time period for Hempstead.Any ideas! George married Alice Burke I believe in Hempstead in 1864. Not Sure, No records. Write me back at digemup315@aol.com.

Thanks,

Larry
