In regard to "Newtown, Queens County:" according to an article in Newsday's "Long Island A to Z," the name "New Towne" was officially adopted by settlers in 1664. "In 1897, the area was incorporated into New York City as the Village of Newtown." The name was changed to Elmhurst in the early 1900's.
