My great grandfather, James Dawson, born in England, emigrated around 1857. He married Mary Bennit, born in NY, in England or US. They lived in Troy, raising 5 children (William A, Lila, Caroline (Carrey), Robert Bennit, Mattie L and Harriet) until early 1900's when they moved to NYC.
Mary Bennit's parents were born in US (Mother's name may be Nellie). Brothers Henry (Hank), John, William. John (drummer boy) William died in Civil War. Hank was oldest (unsure whether he was in Civil War). He became a pharmacist and moved to Hempstead, LI.
Seek info about Mary's family/forbears, their descendants, as well as Dawson descendants.
