Timothy Hanley (Hanly) was born about 1830 in Ireland. He married Mary Kane (born about 1829 in Booterstown) in Booterstown/Dublin)March 1852. May 1852 he and Mary immigrated to NYC, where they had two children: Timothy W. Hanley, born March 1856, and a girl, possibly named Joanna, in 1857. Timothy's sister Margaret Hanley accompanied them on the ship to NYC. Mary's brother William was probably also in the US when she and Timothy arrived. At some point, Timothy "went west with the gold rush," never to be seen again, we're told. Perhaps he went west and started a new family? Perhaps he was killed en route? We're told Mary moved to Nyack, Rockland County, New York, about 1896, to live near the Kane families, but we can find no records. What happened to Timothy? Did he really go west for the gold rush? What became of Mary? Did she really move to Nyack? Is she buried in or near Nyack? What became of Joanna? We're told she died young, but can find no record of her birth or death. This is one of our brick walls. We would like to exchange information with anyone who is related to this family. Notify Administrator about this message?
