John C. Smith birth date & parents

Looking for information on the birth date and/or parents of John C. Smith m. Efje Blanch Jan.27,1801, Dutch Reformed Church, Tappan. Child Maria b. July 28, 1803 and son Thomas b.Feb.15, 1809, both baptised in DRC Tappan. Have been unable to find the birth of John C. in baptismal records of DRC Tappan or Clarkstown. Probably born cir.1775 during which time the church records are silent, probably due to the interuption of the American Revolution. Thomas is my gggrandfather but I have not been able to determine his parents ( my ggggrandparents) although I know they were all descended from Adriaen Lambertsen Smit but he had two sons so there are two lines of descent. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions as to how I could overcome this roadblock. I do not live in the USA so actual review of library holdings is difficult.
