Hi Joanne, Yes, Abby Lyke is my ancestor. Below are some notes I have on Ward Newmann and Abby Lyke that may interest you. I don’t know how much info you already have but Fred and Jessie are listed with Eugene and Abby on the 1900 Census. Jessie said she was born in June, 1875 and had been married 8 years in 1900 (1891 or 1892). I have had good luck locating marriage certificates from this period that list parents names and brides place of birth. This could give you the start you need to go back further. The Town of Stony Point has a website listing contact info for the Town Clerk. You should contact her before you make the trip. Hope this helps. If you stumble on any info regarding Eugene and Abby please remember me.

JIM

(Ward) Eugene Newman (b. 1846) and Abbie (Lyke) are found in Haverstraw on the 1900 Census with his son, Frederick and his wife Jessie and Eugene's two grandsons, Eugene and Ward. There is a Eugene Newmann buried in Mt. Repose Cemetery on March 4, 1902. I suspect Eugene and Abby were married in 1894 until Eugene’s death in 1902. Sometime before 1910, Abby remarried James Kennedy and they are found together on the 1910, 1920 and 1930 Census’. There is a James Kennedy buried April 30, 1934 in Mt Repose Cemetery. Abby died November 6, 1936 in Haverstraw.

Ward Eugene Newman (Neumann) owned a furniture store in Haverstraw or Stony Point named E. M. Newmann and Sons. My great grandfather, Theodore S. Lyke worked there as a young man in 1886.

By the 1910 Census Abbie is remarried to James Kennedy but Ward Newman's two grandsons by a previous marriage are living with them. Eugene Newman, age 14 (1896) and Ward Newman, age 11 (1899). This must indicate that both Ward Newman and his first wife are previously deceased?

Ward Newman (the son) of Haverstraw died April 2, 1942 at the age of 43. His wife was Ruth Lynch and he left three sons.
