I am researching two men named Hawkins who married the Palmer sisters, daughters of David and Eunice Palmer. I believe both marriages probably took place in Morristown, and all their children were born in or near Morristown. I'd like to hear from anyone who knows more about them, in particular the ancestry of one or both of the Hawkins men. It may be coincidence that two men named Hawkins, both born in Vermont, married these sisters, but I'm pursuing the possibility it was not a coincidence- that they were related. I'd also like to know where the marriage and birth records are for Morristown for the period 1840-1860, where to write for records. The details are as follows: Moses Hall Hawkins, born 1821 in St Albans, Vt, married Eunice Palmer, born May 8 1824. They lived in Morristown for some time before moving to New Haven, Ct. between 1860 and 1870. Their two daughters were: Mary Elizabeth Hawkins, born Jan 10, 1851 Lillie Hawkins, born Sept 15, 1853 Both women married after moving to New Haven. The other Hawkins was Stephen Hawkins, born 1815 in Vermont (according to census records). He married Emeline Palmer, born abt. 1821, sister of Eunice Palmer above. Their families seem to have remained in Morristown at least until after 1900. They tree I have pieced together, from census records and the Edwardsville cemetery inscriptions (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~stlawgen/CEMETERY/Edwardsville/Edwardsville.htm) is: Stephen Hawkins 1815 - 1902 .. +Emeline Palmer 1821 - 1877 ........ 2 Adah Mariah Hawkins - 1858 ........ 2 Edward C Hawkins ........ 2 Hannah Hawkins 1844 - 1894 ............ +John VanSchaick 1844 - 1882 ................... 3 Birtha VanSchaick 1879 - 1879 ........ 2 Eunice Hawkins 1846 - ........ 2 Joseph Hawkins 1848 - 1911 ............ +Alice Hamill - 1914 ................... 3 Eunice Hawkins 1872 - 1883 ................... 3 Mary Hawkins 1872 - 1876 ................... 3 Francis J. Hawkins ................... 3 Burton L. Hawkins ................... 3 Vira Hawkins .......................+Gerald Maloy ........ 2 Orange D Hawkins 1851 - 1854 ........ 2 Eunice A Hawkins 1856 - 1867 ........ 2 Ida Jane Hawkins 1861 - 1876 Joseph Hawkins obituary, posted on genforum was also very helpful - thanks to Keith Conroy. (http://genforum.genealogy.com/ny/saintlawrence/messages/1226.html) So the questions are - does anyone recognize these names are ones you have researched? where can I find vital records for Morristown 1640-1860?
