Potter/Guernsey/Gifford

I am researching my Potter family, which resided for a time in Saratoga County. Of interest to me are my 5great-grandfather Joseph who was head of household in Saratoga his wife Lois (Guernsey) Potter. Also Joseph’s son, my 4great-grandfather Noah Potter, who was born in the year 1779 -- perhaps in Saratoga.

Particulars are a Joseph Potter, Jr., and family mentioned in the 1790FC. Specifically it was in the 1790 Federal Census for New York, Albany, Saratoga County, Roll: M637-6 Page 39; Image 0314. They were listed as 2 free white males 16 upwards including heads of household, 3 free white males 16 and under and 3 free white females. As stated above, my direct ancestors in this group would be Joseph Potter, wife Lois and son Noah.

I want any mention of this family that I can get. Joseph Potter’s parents lived in Washington County New York and the junior was one of 10 children of that union. Any data also about them -- Joseph Potter the Senior, and/or wife Dinah (Gifford) Potter -- either of which might have died in Saratoga and/or might have been buried there. I would love to have any information about their deaths if anyone could find anything aout that.

His son Joseph Potter, Jr. (above) moved soon after being in Albany to Ballston Spa (and then to Susquehanna, Pennsylvania).

The children of Joseph Jr. & wife Lois (Guernsey) were: Noah b. Oct 7, 1779, John b. Nov. 16, 1782, Elsie b. Dec 26, 1785, Lois, b. April 10, 1788, Lucretia b. November 14, 1790, Edie b. June 29, 1793, Parley b. Jan. 18, 1791, Amanda b. March 7, 1798 & Cynthia born on March 25, 1803. (As taken from Bio: Record of NE Penn. Part 1)

Any or all of the above could have been born in Saratoga.

Other Potter family members in the area were the other children of Joseph Potter Sr.: Jonathan, Cornelius, Jeremiah, Stephen, Robe, Gideon Elizabeth Desire and Nathaniel. These were all living in Eastern Upstate from the later 1700's to the early to mid 1800's and might have been recorded somewhere in Saratoga. They were born from about 1755 to abt. 1817. (Taken from book by Charles Edward Potter; Genealogies of the Potter Families and their Descendants in America....")

I have found information from the book "Saratoga County New York Wills, 1796-1805" that has data on a Joseph Potter who was not mine, and his wife Katherine and children's names which were not the same as above. I have also had access to the book by Nathaniel Bartlett Sylvester: "History of Saratoga County New York, Some of Its' Prominent Men and Pioneers". In that book I found that my ancestor Joseph Jr. had owned a tavern in Half Moon Township.

Any OTHER source that anyone might have about Albany, Half Moon, all of Saratoga County with any mention of any f the Potter names as listed above would be greatly appreciated.
