My family tree has been well kept for generations, however, the Smith line (related closely to the Stantons) begins with a Jacob Smith in the late 1700's, whose grandson John Henry Smith owned a hotel and butchery in Charleston Four Corners at Schenectady in the early 19th Century. I have been able to find no information about his origins; not even so much as his nationality. John Henry's mother was a Stanton (Old English), his wife was a McDuffie (Irish), and he had plenty of Dutch relatives (founders of New Amsterdam). I would be exceptionally thankful for any leads, thank you!
