Whitehead would be the given name, most likely. On the 1800 census for Albany New York, at Rensselaerville, is a Whitehead Smith aged 26 to 45. And in the 1840 census for Summitt Schoharie county, is Whitehead Smith aged 20 to 30, with 2 son and a daughter under 5, and wife 20 to 30.
