Thank you, Jade. Your information will be very helpful to researchers who do not live in New York.
By a stroke of pure luck, I found a reference in a history of Dearborn County, Indiana, that led me to Cattaraugus County, NY, which was where Julia was living after her family moved there from Tioga County. I have still found no marriage record, but there is enough evidence to know that she was a daughter of Cornelius BROOKS, and Samuel must have left Hector (then in Seneca County) and met her there.
Your information might come in handy for researching others who remained for a while in New York.
