Carol,
It’s so great to find a Margison relative!
I found Ella’s obituary accidently by scouring the mail archives at the Sullivan County Rootsweb site for Margison references. Here is how I figure into the picture.
Ella Margison was the daughter of James Margison and Mary ?. Thanks for her surname. All I knew is that she was born in Pa.
James Margison was the son of Martin Margison b.1794 and Sarah (Sally) Rightmeyer. b 1796 in Ulster County. Martin (baptized Martinus Markison) was the son of Peter Markison b.abt 1760 and Catrina Roosa b. abt 1762 from Woodstock. I’ve hit a brick wall trying to find Peter Markisons ancestors, as I’ve found at least 10 different spelling variations for the surname, and the Dutch naming customs are confusing.
I have been able to locate 10 children for Martin and Sarah:
John S. Margison b.1817 (my 2GGrandfather)
Ezra b.1818
Peter b. abt 1820
Margaret b.1827
James b.1828
Lucy J b.1833
Abraham b.1836
Cyrus b.1838
Lewis b. 1840
Riley b. 1843

I show 8 children for James and Mary:
Sarah b.1865
Ella b.1868
Fannie b.1871
George b.1872
Emma b.1874
Martha b.1879
Alice b.1881
William James b.1883

This is the first I’ve heard of Ella's older sister, Syrena. All I show is a sister Sarah married to Richard Hall.
I’ve accumulated quite a bit of info on the Margisons from Ulster/Greene/Sullivan counties. If you want to share information you can try me at kmargison@yahoo.com

Thanks ~Ken Margison~
