David Darling, son of David Darling & Esther Metcalf of Keene & Surry NH, married a woman named Martha (Patsy) and her maiden name has been a mystery. However, it may have been there all along. Two of her children who died in Wisconsin had listed on their death records that their mother was named Martha Darling...Martha Darling. Is this a "duh" moment? It is quite likely that Martha was, in fact, born a Darling and married a close or distant relative in David. They set up house early in Owego, Tioga Co., NY in the early 1820s, moved on to LaPorte Co., Indiana in the 1830s, probably due to David's troubles with the Methodist Church, and ended up in Waupaca Co., Wisconsin, where they died. Their children were all born in New York.
If anyone has any info at all on the origins of Martha Darling, wife of David Darling and/or their marriage, I would be most grateful to hear. Thanks
