Oh my goodness, Pat, this is wonderful.

My friend inherited an estate and in the house was two diaries, dated 1856 and 1857, and written by Nathan W. Carman. Also in the house is a diary stamped M. Wood, Accord, NY and a leather wallet with Myron Wood, Accord, NY and an ambrotype with the taped note "This is Myron's dear old grandmoher that he loved so very much and she loved him too."

I know that Myron Wood was the woman's grandfather but couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what the relationship was between the Woods and Nathan Carman.

In Nathan Carman's diary, he talks about all things that led me to believe he was a carpenter including working on the M.E. church in Ellenville and building "Gov. Nickison's" house so the information you found about him being a cabinet maker makes sense that this is, indeed, him. At the time of his diary, he must have been 21 and 22. You know, as I was reading it, I wondered if he got married. I am glad to know that he did.

This is so exciting.

I have one more question I wonder if you can help with. I spent hours and hours online trying to find out who "Gov. Nickison" might be. Mr. Carman spelled phonetically much of the time so the spelling might not be correct. I found a list of NYS governors and do not see anything resembling that name. I'm wondering if maybe he really wasn't a governor and maybe that was just his first name. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much for all your help. This is so much fun finding further information.
