Hi Terri, What I wouldn`t give to find some old diaries! I can understand your curiousity about the people who wrote them & about the house where you found them. I don`t find much about the Wood or the Carman family online other than the census. You might contact the Ulster Co. Historical Society & see what they have. http://www.ucgsny.org/ I think Nathan Carman`s wife was probably Mary Wood, sister of Marshall Wood, Myron`s father. In 1850 Marshall, 13, is in Warwarsing in the household of James Wood, 24. Also in the home is Elizabeth, 26, John, 23, Craft, 15, & Mary 18 who I think was Nathan`s wife. Also living in the household is Lavina Wood, 46, probably the mother of the family. I think she is the Lysina, 79, listed as Marshall`s mother on the 1880. The Gov. Nickison in the diary is probably Govenour(index spelling) Nickerson on the 1860 census in Warwarsing. He is age 30, living with Ellen, 32 & Mary E., 4. This is probably the Grovenir Nickerson mentioned in this message on the Rootsweb/Ancestry Ulster Co. message board: http://tinyurl.com/7rgos2 Pat Notify Administrator about this message?
