Hello Nancy,

How exciting to meet you! I was beginning to think I would never meet another real live Brewer descendent, this is great. It's nice of you to write me back, I really appreciate it.

I often wondered if John was an older brother, uncle or cousin of Abraham, also. Although, I have run across some very early marriages, they usually seem to be young girls married to older men. My success with Abraham has been like searching for someone in the witness protection program... LOL.

My luck with Eunice has been better, as far as solid proof of her Griswold line goes, the rub is nailing down Abraham and Eunice's marriage, their children's birth records, Elijah's marriage to Margaret and their children's births, I assume Elijah had more children, but again, have no proof.

I have an official document that shows that David Brewer, born 1818, in Elmira, was the son of Elijah and Margaret (Kinyon) Brewer. It seems as if I have tracked Brewers and Stulls et all, forever, but this gaping hole where I need proof, is a hard one.

Abraham and Eunice (Griswold) Brewer are buried in Riverside Cemetery in Chemung, NY. According to Cemetery Readings and transcriptions I have seen, their son Elijah Brewer, with the notation died in Ohio is buried there also.

I have read that two of Elijah's nieces went to Scioto, OH. I often wondered if Elijah was visiting family there when he died. The families do show up in the records, but they are nieces, so it is the name Dodge and one other I have been working on.

It is possible that all Riverside Cemetery, Brewers are in plot #96, including the 2 John Brewers, old and young. This indicates to me pretty strongly that they are family. One John is around 90 and the other, born in 1800, died in 1821, the same year Elijah Brewer died. As I understand it, Abraham and Eunices first son and youngest son died. But, I have no proof of this, or what family relationship, the two John's might have to Abraham.

I have assembled some official documents that do fit circumstantically. Not having Elijah or his wife Margaret live to make the 1850 every name Census (he died in 1821 and she died in 1844, buried in Southport, Chemung, NY), makes things tough.

I believe Elijah Brewer's wife and David Brewer's Mother is in the Southport Church Cemetery,(near the David Brewer family plot) Margaret's maiden name was Kinyon, I just haven't been able to prove it.

I have been looking for some sort of church record for her. DAR level information is hard to find.

The Footnote information sounds wonderfully promising, perhaps I will find something there that I can use. I very much appreciate you telling me that it is there.

I am working on the Eunice Griswold Line also. It would be nice if I could link these folks firmly together, that is for sure.

I've read that David Brewer, their son, married Rebecca Pickett in Scioto, OH. It seems reasonable that this might have occurred if David decided to go west and (as was often the case, he touched base with any relatives on his path).

He could have met and married Rebecca in Scioto. Or he could have known her before, there were Picketts in the general Tri-County area. I know where David started his life and I know where he was in 1850 onward... but I do have big hole to fill yet.

Margaret is the head of the household in the 1830 Census, David would have been 3 or possibly close to 4 when his father Elijah died. Which would have made him possibly 13 or 14 at that census, depending when his birthday fell and when the census was taken. Also depends on who was answering the questions that were being asked.

David might have been placed in the wrong census column during that census or perhaps he was living with other family at the time. It must have been extremely difficult for Margaret with children to care for and no husband.

I would be most grateful for any help you could offer me, especially with research or suggestions. Anything you would be willing to share with me would be lovely.

I definitely need assistance in firmly linking Elijah to Abraham and Eunice. Unfortunately,in that time period, written records are pretty thin. Perhaps a ministers record of birth, baptism, marriage, will, joint property records, bible records will turn up... something to connect them. I have a document that links my David to Elijah and Margaret (Kinyon) Brewer. Born in Elmira, in 1818.

I would be glad to send you a copy if you are interested. This document is how I discovered that information is harvested and put in the general data bank, even when you think you are just putting it in your privatized file.

No one had seen that particular document for probably a hundred years... but it was all over within a few days of my entering the information in my private family tree... it was very enlightening.

Made me vow to never enter information on a living person there. I have read the census documents that show the younger Abram Brewer and his family in Michigan... and often hoped that I would be able to make contact with a Brewer from there.

I haven't done these message boards in a very long time, and never tried an area board before, it is neat that you were looking. If I ever knew how to privately exchange information, I am afraid I have forgotten it... Maybe you can give tell me how to do it? I realize lots of folks like to talk privately.

Thank you, Nancy.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Brewer
