The Pension record for John Porter shows that he lived in Whitehall, Washington Co., NY when he applied for his original pension and for an increase in pension on 13 May 1844.
He states that he enlisted into the Reg. of Artificers from the town of Danbury, Ct. The cover memo states 3 yrs. The statement he made said he served 5 yrs. The 1818 letter states he enlisted for 5 yrs, served 1 yr 3 mo with Capt James Norton and Col J Baldwin then was transferred for the remainder of service, discharged by Gen George Washington at West Point.
In his original pension he stated that he served in the line of the state of Massachusetts. Wife was 64 yrs old.

13 Aug 1851 his widow Lydia Porter age 68 of Summit County, Ohio states husband John Porter died 20 May 1848 in Washington County, NY. Vital records: John N Porter
d. Whitehall May 21, 1848 age 85yr
There is also a letter from Ransom Harlow Justice of the Peace that states
May 25, 1826 married John Porter to Lydia Barber widow of Stephen Barber dec.
