Alexander M. McLean was born Dec. 25, 1794 in Argyle, N. Y. During the War of 1812 he was a private of the uniform company of Albany Volunteers. He returned to Albany in Dec., 1814. He was a clerk in the postoffice in Albany; later, he was a clerk in the custom house in New York City. He left New York in 1820 going to Cuba, then to New Orleans. He finally settled in Van Buren, Arkansas in the mid to late 1820's. He was County Clerk of Crawford Co., Arkansas for 23 consecutive years, then Clerk of the U. S. District Court in northwestern Arkansas from its establishment until his death. Do any of you recognize him as a member of your family?

Thanks for your attention.
