Jim,
The 1860 census for New Rochelle, pg. 355, has a Wm., 50, & Abby, 11, GOLDEN living with the Mary Hallett (she`s 50) family. Both Wm. & Abby were born in NY & his occ. is day laborer. On the 1850 in New Rochelle, pg. 163, there is a William GOLDING, age 28, a laborer, b. NY, Elizabeth, 24(?), b. Ireland & Charles, 8, William, 4 & Abby J., 8 months, all b. NY. On the 1900 census in New Rochelle Jane Valentine`s mother`s birthplace is given as Ireland, though in 1910 & 1920 it`s again NY. I can`t explain the age discrepancy for Wm. Golden/Golding between the 1850 & 1860 but I do think it`s the same man. Have you tried to get Abby`s death record to see if her parents name`s are shown?
