Jim,

I was mistaken, Abbie (sp. on the record)does give her mother`s birthplace as Ireland on the 1920 census. It`s only in 1910 that her mother`s bp is NY. On the `20 the surname is spelled Valetine. In both 1910 & 1920 she is living with her son Chester & his wife Joan. In 1910 they have one child Harold & then in 1920 they have Harold, 13 & daughter Cecile, 8. Chester works for a milk dairy on both census, in 1910 as a driver & in 1920 as a bookkeeper.

In 1900, she is Jane Valentine with Geo. & sons Charles (bd Feb. 1875) & Chester (bd Nov. 1885). Her birthplace is NY, father`s bp NY & mother`s Ireland. Birthdate is Oct. 1846 but I think that`s off by a couple of years. George`s bd is July 1842. They have been married for 30 years & Jane has had 6 children with 5 living. George is a painter.

In 1870, George & Jane are on pg. 429 in New Rochelle with son William, 1. The name is indexed a Balentine. On pg. 427 is William Golden, 49, b. Connecticut with Rosanna Golden, 32, Martha Moore, 10 & John Moore, 7. This could be Abby`s father with a 2nd wife & step children.

Pat
