After brief research regarding S/sgt Helge E. Wessman I can find little to help you in your search for his relatives.
Viewing the 1930 US Census for Harrison, NY, one sees him living with his Aunt Hilda and Uncle Victor NELSON on Purchase St. They were gardeners on an estate. Helge was listed as gardener helper. The NELSON couple appear childless on this census. Today, the Purchase area of Harrison, NY is home to 2 colleges- SUNY Purchase and Manhattanville College and also many corporate parks including Pepsico, Inc. (where I once worked).
I can find no record for him in Essex County, New Jersey.
On the ship manifest SS Stockholm which landed in NY on 9 Oct 1928, he is listed as going to be with his aunt Hilda NELSON at Purchase NY, who also paid for his crossing. His next of kin in Sweden is listed as his mother, Elin KULLANDER, Hall. (the latter being a place name I assume).
You may have to seek out help in Sweden.
