Elizabeth Oakley ca 1770 Westchester, NY-ca 1838 Pike, PA
Greetings. So far none of us researching Elizabeth Oakley, who married James "Canopus" Sirrine, can find where she is buried, nor an estate record. Her parents were Robert Oakley (1735-1782 killed by Tories) and Mary Wright. She married James Sirrine ca 1789 probably in the Sleepy Hollow area of Westchester county NY. The Sirrines moved to Deerpark, Orange, NY by 1820, then to Lackawaxen Twp, Pike, PA. On 16 Dec 1837 Elizabeth gave an affidavit for her brother Jared Oakley's Revolutionary War service. She is not accounted for in the 1840 census. Elizabeth and James had 8 (unnamed) children, per an affidavit by daughter Fanny Law. There are guesses as to the names of their children, which I have researched extensively. There is really one big question concerning the Oakley family, which might help us sort out the puzzles in Pike county: What religion did the Oakleys follow in Westchester county? In Lackawaxen the family was located near Vanauken Eddy/Kimbles. Perhaps church records will assist. Thanks for any help.
