Aside from the fact that Thomas' will proves he is Matthew's son and his military service record (War of 1812) shows that he was born in New Castle Co. DE in 1769 my Thomas' remains a mystery man until he becomes active in Lexington, Fayette Co. KY in 1800. From that point on I have at least one public record for each year until his death.
When did he leave Delaware? I'm not sure as I have found no records which mention him specifically. Willard OCHELTREE who was, I believe, the last OCHELTREE born and reared in that state once told me of a mention made by his grandfather who told him that Thomas had left on 1 Jan 1800, a new century a new start.
The information about his children is rather sparse and, with the exception of my Thomas Jefferson OCHELTREE, I have never found them in the Census. One son dies here in 1822, the daughter appears only in her father's will and in one newspaper item from 1813, another son is give power of attorney by his father when both were here in New Orleans (1817). So no real clues there.
The most promising but most complicated clue would be to ferret out the various lawsuits mentined in Thomas' will. The second is Francis KRINCKLE who is mentioned in the will as well. I have two or three records where he and Thomas act together and Thomas is bondsman for Francis marriage to the daughter of Melcher MIRES. Unfortunately Francis is even harder to find than information about Thomas. Don't think I ever seen him in a record where Thomas is not present.
