Dan,
Thanks for responding so quickly!I really am delighted that you think that my research will be of some use to you all over on the other side of the Atlantic.I have never come across emigrants to America but my original aim was to trace my own direct line and so this is not at all surprising. In a few weeks (when my dreaded exams are over) I plan to go to Edinburgh itself where I hope to find more information about the Ochiltrees - perhaps George the weaver left a will or something.I really would like to research further the origins of this name - I have quite a few unusual names in my ancestry including Rhynd and Moncur - but Ochiltree is one of the rarest I have ever encountered (maybe it isn't so rare on your side of the Atlantic - I don't know - but it certainly is over here.)I have read with interest your somewhat heated debate over the royal question and can sympathise with the arguements on both sides.I think an open mind and more research are the keys to tracing the family further back.
Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply so quickly,
Andrew
P.S. Feel free to share all of my research with other Ochiltrees on your side of the Atlantic.Perhaps it will contribute to resolving the question over the Ochiltree origins.
