What a shame! You would have enjoyed the book, but must have the index I would think.
Know what you mean, I had the opportunity to view the original will of my Mitchell ancestor (not the copy) and believe me, like you, I harbored the same thoughts! But in the end, honestly took over!
I did not seek out the Castlestuart book.I just happened to be referred to it while in the GA Archives back in 1984.My husband's ancestry connects to quite a few Scottish and Irish families and the book was recommended by the staff there.I read parts of it and made notes.I now have a copy and the index.I later found that at a Ogletree family reunion, my elder aunt had a copy and had the book with her along with every Ogletree history I had ever seen. She has since passed away and I have no idea what happened to those books.I need to contact her family about them.At the time, I had just connected all the branches which at the time, seemed impossible.
Actually, considering the time in which her research took place and etc...Mrs Railey probably did the best she could do.I actually have no opinion of her work as most those mentioned would be of the other branches and I believe yours. My ancestor's brother, 2WILLIAM OGLETREE was mentioned as being in the ARW and his grave decorated as such, but my line of OGLETREE was not in her book.
As stated before, I believe no matter what was published out there, I like to be aware of it.I like having the various histories (book records)even if I find errors, I still want copies.I have a collection of Estes histories and half of them are full of mistakes! But I still enjoy reading what the author's had to say.I also collect anything which would have the name and variants of Ochiltree/Ogletree, just in case I find something of value that would help in my research. At some point, I don't want to be sorry that I did NOT purchse the book, that has happened before.Better safe than sorry! Thanks for your comments.
