I am looking for anyone with information on the following O'Connor family: John O'CONNOR, born in Ireland approximately 1840. In Ireland he married Bridget CAROLAN and then at some point prior to April 1864 they had moved to (Cedar, Black Hawk County,) Iowa where there son Richard F. O'CONNOR was born. Richard is usually listed as "R.F." on most censuses, but I finally found him as "Richard" on an early one. (And bless Iowa's state censuses!! Especially the 1925 one that asks for each person's father's name AND their mother's MAIDEN name! as well as the parents present ages, nativity and place of marriage! Not only does this help in the obvious ways, but with a bit more work also helps find siblings of your source person.) Richard F. O'CONNOR (I suspect he was Richard Frances) was born in April 1864 in Iowa. In 1895 he married Sophia YOUNGBLUT / YOUNGBLOOD, daughter of Frank YOUNGBLUT and Susan ZIMMERAL / ZIMMURAL who were variously listed as born and married in Luxemburg or Germany. It is possible that Richard had been married previously, simply due to his age of 30/31 at their marriage, but I find no other data for it so far (okay, I have only been researching this line one day!) R.F. and Susan had at least 13 children, 3 of which died in early infancy or childhood and 2 for which I have no name. All of the children appear to have been born in Cedar, Black Hawk Co., IOWA: 1) Baby O'CONNOR, born and died about 1899/1900 bef. June census. 2) Able J. O'CONNOR, b. Jun 1896, d. before 1905. 3) Francis J. O'CONNOR,(son), b. Dec. 1897. 4) Paul O'CONNOR, born 1900/1901 after the 1900 census was taken. (This is the line I am researching, Paul was my younger half-sister's grandfather [and mine while I was a little girl] but we do not have ready memories or access to his information due to divorce and estrangement of families.] Paul married Ines BAGENSTOS, daughter of Jay B. BAGENSTOS and Alma A. REESE, around 1929 and had 6 children. 5) Florence O'CONNOR, b. 1901/1902 6) Baby O'CONNOR, probably born 7th between Florence and Pauline, between 1902/1904. 7) Pauline O'CONNOR, b. 1905/1906 8) Mildred O'CONNOR, b. 1907/1908 9) Anna O'CONNOR, b. 1910 10) Leo O'CONNOR, b. 1912/1913 11) Gerald O'CONNOR, b. 1913/1914 12) Virginia or Georgiana, b. 1915/1916 (name very hard to read on census, transcribers at Ancestry.com say Virginia.) 13) Marie O'CONNOR, b. 1917/1918 Any additional information on these O'CONNOR families would certainly be appreciated. It would also be great to hear from any descendents of them. I would imagine the Black Hawk County records are chock-a-block full of records since this family seemed to stay put for several generations. Thanks! ~Carol Notify Administrator about this message?
