Hand-written obit reads:
Daniel O'Day an old and highly respected citizen of Jefferson Township, died at the family home, two miles south of Chambersburg Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after a long illness, aged 84 years. The funeral was from the Catholic Church at Chambersburg Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. Father Merckerman of Kahoka. The burial was in the cemetery near the church.
Daniel O'Day was born in County Claire, Ireland. He came to this country early in life and to Clark County, Missouri in 1858. He was the earliest known Irish settler in that part of the county. The surviving members of the family are John, Andrew, Michael and Daniel O'Day, Mrs Wm O'Connell and Miss Annie O'Day. The wife having preceded her husband to the tomb having passed away about two years ago.
1999- A visit to the Chambersburg Catholic Church Cemetery recently enables us to note that the tombstone is still intact and in good shape. The church no longer stands and there are a few tombstones on the left side of the road - basically in a field area and another cemetery across the road enclosed by a fence.
