Jonas--captured by Indians

I'm looking for info on Jonas Odell or Odle, b abt 1733-43 NY; md Mary abt 1762; had son Jonas b 15 Feb 1763 in Cambridge, Washington Co, NY.

According to family tradition, Jonas Sr as a child saw his parents scalped by Indians (probably in eastern NY), and he and and his two little sisters were kidnapped. The little girls were put into an empty feather bed tick slung over a horses' back and Jonas was tied onto the horse. Somehow Jonas escaped and reached a white settlement. The two girls were never heard from again.

The parents of Jonas Sr were supposedly Jackson and Hannah. Another tradition says that they were of the Massachusetts Odells, but that Jonas and a few others changed the spelling of their names to keep them from being identified with prominent Loyalists in the Odell family.

Does anyone know anything about Jonas Sr or his parent that might help me? Thanks!

Janell
