dear colleen, It seems my info goes with yours, here goes..... I have Matthew Finnan(f. Joannes Fineen..m.Ellena Mergin(Merrigan ?) ) b/bap. 17.4.1815 (Parish Tipperary - Diocese Cashel and Emly - Sponsors..Patrick Lonergan and Mary Finnan ). Matthew married Eliza O'Doherty on 26.11.1853 at St Michaels Catholic church, Tipperary (Cashel and Emly)the witnesses to the marriage were Edmund Doherty and "Catherine Quillinan ".(Eliza's parents were John Dougherty(Doherty) and Johannah Donovan) Two months later Matthew and Catherine left Liverpool (18.1.1854) aboard the "Indian Queen" bound for Melbourne. Records show that Eliza was 20 at this time. They settled at "Hopetoun "(Tipperary flats), Baccus Marsh. They had one son, John, b.c1855 (no record found)d.19.10.1922 (67). Eliza died on 1.1.1857 (22)(no trace of death records) Ten months later Matthew married her sister Catherine (24)at St Laurences catholic church Hopetoun.(records show she was a servant from Melbourne)Witnesses were, Edmond and Mary Ryan) I think maybe our O'Doherty's are connected (hope !) and i hope you have more info on Catherine and eliza"s family.
