Hi Barry, The LDS family History library has films of the birth Indexes for Ireland. I can check them for you to see what year & what region he was born in. The index also gives you the page & volume number which I believe can be used to order the birth certificate.
I am descended from the BECHER family of Co Cork. There is a branch of BECHERs who married with the ALLEYN family of Ballyduvane House in Clonakilty. ALLEYN became a common middle name. It seems likely that your father is connected with this family either by marriage or locality. There were also members of the BECHER family in Bristol.
