I'm trying this again since I have some updated information. My father's mother was Lena D. Cross. Her father was Samuel Cross and her mother was Eliza Brunton.
Here is the information I have:
Father of Samuel Cross was John Cross. John Cross was born in 1818 in Ohio, according to a census I found on line. His parents are listed as being from New York.
In an 1880 census I found on the Latter Day Saints site the information is listed as this;
John Cross b. 1818 in Ohio father; birth place New York
mother; birthplace New York.
During this census in 1880 John is 62 years of age. He is a farmer and is listed as a widow.
Children listed in the home are:
1. Jackson Cross, son age 33 farmer b.1847 Ohio
2. Emma(Emily?) Cross, daughter age 32 housekeeper b. 1848 Ohio
3. Dianna (Dianne?) daughter age 26 at home b. 1854 Ohio
4. Samuel Cross son age 25 farm laborer b. 1855 Ohio.
There are 2 other children not listed on this census.
5. California Cross, died at age 18 unknown cause around 1875/6.
(My grandmother writes that her father told her about a sister he had that was sitting on some steps in the house and just fell over dead. She was known as Aunt Cal.)
6. Jane Cross who was already married to George Brunton.
I have never seen a wife listed for John Cross on any of the census' I have seen but I did receive a reply on another board stating that there is an Elizabeth (?) listed as his wife in one census he came across.
This is all the information I have on the Cross side of my family. If anyone has any information that resembles, crosses, matches, or anything, would you please share it with me? I would be most appreciative. This has been my brick wall for close to 5 years.
