Moss:
I am searching for my gr-gr-aunt, Matilda Ellen (Dixon) Newman, b. abt 1863 in KY, d. abt. 1897 in Adams Co. OH. She went by the name of Ellen. Her husband was James B. Newman, b. abt 1881 Adams Co, d. after 1897. They had 4 children (William Elbert Newman, Madison Bruce "Matt" Newman, Iva Mae Newman-Cooper, Sylvia C. Newman-McConnell). Ellen died young and unexpectedly leaving husband and 4 small children (b. 1881 thru 1890). The 2 girls went to live with Ellen's sister Elvira Adaline "Ada" Dixon-Newman (marrying Madison "Bruce" Newman who is NOT related to Ellen's husband .. Ellen apparently named one of her sons after Bruce). Ada & Bruce didn't have any children of their own; they lived in Mason & Fleming Co. KY. The 2 boys went to live with Ellen's sister Martha Dixon-Dixon (marrying a distant cousin) who lived in Adams Co. OH.
I have a newspaper clipping of Ellen's death but not date on it (it is thought to be around 1897):
"Sudden Death - Mrs. James Newman died at her home in this place Sunday morning, after an illness of twenty-four hours. Thursday and Friday she did a large washing and ironing and was in her usual health, no though being entertained by her family that death was so near. Saturday morning her illness necessitated the calliing of a physician, but she continued to grow worse, death resulting as above stated. Her illness was female weakness. She leaves a husband and four small children to mourn her demise. Funeral services were conducted at the residence of the deceased by Rev. V. E. Taylor, of the Presbyterian Church, of which church she had become a member about three months ago. Her remains were deposited in West Union Cemetery south of town."
This is much more than you need to know. I can't locate Ellen's husband, James B. Newman or what happened to him after her death. Can't locate him in future census. Would be interested to know if he is buried next to Ellen and when he was born and died. Be glad to reimburse you of any expenses that you occur.
Also is this cemetery in Adams county or Sandusky Co.?
