Hi, I do have a Robert McClellen who married Susan Jarvis, 8 Jan 1848, Ashland Co. OH, Early Marriage records, Ashland Co. web site. The Jarvis family and some McClellen's are buried in Hayesville, Vermillion Twp Cem. (This Cem. is on line at Ashland Co. Web site.) Susan Jarvis was the daughter of Wm. and Mary Armstrong Jarvis. She was born abt 1832 OH. So possible Robert was b. 1832. In the 1850 Census, Susan McClellen, age 18 is living with Wm. and Mary (Armstrong) Jarvis, her parents. I didn't find Susan and Robert in OH in any of the Census. And I don't know who Robert's father is? As the 1850 Census doesn't show Robert. Now some of the Jarvis famiy were wagon makers and blacksmiths. Susan's, older brother Robert, owned a Pro Wagon Shop in Mansfield. Some of McClellen family lived around the Jarvis family. It's possible that Robert McClellen learned the wagon making trade from the Jarvis family. I did find a Robert and Susan McClellen in Pacer Co. California in 1860,1870,1880's Census. This is Northern CA near Sacramento and on up to Roseville, etc. This Robert McClellen was a wagon maker and Susan a dressmaker. It is my belief that Robert went to California durning the 1849 Gold Rush and came back some time in the 1850's for her and they moved on to California. I believe he (Robert McClellen) learned the trade from Jarvis family and moved to California to take advantage of the need for Wagons and etc. I do have a little more information on this family if you would like it. If you think it would help. Marge, KS Notify Administrator about this message?
