I wouldn't give up on William and Amelia as Laura's parents just yet. Have you seen the actual image of the 1860 Cenus of William's family in Clinton County, Ohio? I can't tell what the name is for a 8 year old female in that family (among others, terrible handwriting) for sure but it could be Laura. The first letter looks similar to other capital L's on that page. The only 18 year-old on the next census is Marion, who was also listed as 8 years old in 1860.
This family lived in Clark Township, Clinton County, Ohio. That borders on Union Twp., Highland County, where the Drais family lived. They could have lived only a few miles apart.
And there is this. A few years back I copied the Taylor surnames from "Marriage Records of Clinton County, Ohio (1810-1900)". Fortunately the last page has Templins on it also.
Page 451 says:
TEMPLIN, L. Frances; DRAIS, Commodore P.; 23 Dec 1869; GARNER, Rileigh, JP; 3-616 (I take this to mean volume and page.)
TEMPLIN, William S.; WHITE; Amelia; 24 May 1840; ELLIOTT, William, JP; 3-177
I have found a little more on Isaac Drais. He was married 4 times. Hannah is not Commodore's mother. Click on my name for my address and email me if interested.
