Hello Steve: Many thanks for your response. I agree that I was a little hasty in dismissing Wm. S. TEMPLIN & Amelia WHITE as the probable parents of Laura Frances TEMPLIN (b 1849 in Clinton County OH & d 24 May 1922 in Marion County, OR). However, the illegibly written name which you discerned in the 1860 US Census for Clinton County OH was that of Laura's sister, Alice LOVENIA Templin. Lovenia was two years younger than Laura and eventually married George Wyatt Hamrick (1849-1918) in Clinton County OH. I cannot explain WHY Laura was absent from the 1860 Census, but she was not listed there on the day the US Census Enumerator came calling (3 July 1860). However, Marvin TEMPLIN, President of the TEMPLIN Family Research Group forwarded to me a transcript from the Clinton County Ohio Marriage Book, which records that “L. Frances TEMPLIN was indeed married to Commodore DRAIS on 23 December 1869 in Clinton County, Ohio, by Raleigh GARNER, Justice of the Peace.” The fact that this marriage occurred in Clinton County strongly supports a conclusion that this is the same Laura F. Templin who was listed with Wm. & Amelia Templin in the 20 September 1850 Census of Clark Township, in Clinton County OH. Below are some of the mileposts of the life of Laura Frances Templin. Oregon Death Index, 1903-98 about Laura F. Thacker Name: Thacker, Laura F. County: Marion Death Date: 24 May 1922 Certificate: 493 PS: Steve-- I did not realize that Isaac Barton DRAIS (b KY in 1816/17--d OH 1892) was married four times. His first wife, Nancy WEST (b 1815, m 1839, d 1849) was the mother of his eight children. Second wife, Hannah Nichols (b 1810, m 1850, d 1874) was their stepmother, and third wife Elizabeth (b 1831, m 1874, d 1898; widow of John McClelland) survived Isaac Barton Drais and was again widowed. This Isaac B. DRAIS of Highland County OH was the son of Daniel DRAIS (b 1780/81 in VA/WV & d 8 Jan 1855 in Highland Co OH) & Rebecca BRYAN or BRYANT (1782/TN-1852/OH). Daniel was in turn the son of John Jacob DRAIS (b 13 May 1750 in Philadelphia PA & d ca 1814/15 in Hardy County VA/WV). This John Jacob DRAIS had another son, Johan Peter DRAIS (b 1776 Hardy Co VA -- d ca 1867 Washington Court House, Fayette Co OH). Johan Peter DRAIS had a son, Isaac C. DRAIS (1802-1859; married Malinda BUFFINBURGER, 1802-1894) who lived in Wayne Township, Fayette County, OH, not very far from his first cousin, Isaac B. DRAIS. Family originally came from Germany; I am advised that the father of Johan Jacob DRAIS was a Peter DRAIS (b 16 June 177 in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany & d 13 January 1773 in Philadelphia PA); this Peter DRAIS (also DREES/TREES/TREECE) came to America on the galley "Saint Andrew," arriving 26 September 1737. I would be interested in exchanging additional data with you about this very interesting DRAIS Family. Regards, -- George Notify Administrator about this message?
