McBride's transcription of the marraige you mention reads: BINNEGER, Andrew J. m Sarah Smith Feb. 23, 1853, by C. M. Bentley, J.P. JP is for 'Justice of the Peace' and in the front of the marriage book they list those who are licensed to marry people. Charles M. Bentley was: J.P, Fairfield twp and Mayor of Leesburg. Many time the marriage takes place where the bride lived. There were 11 Sarah SMITHs in Highland Co in 1850, and none of them live in Fairfield twp. So this doesn't really help you, but it is just a little bit more information. Fairfiled twp borders Clinton Co and Fayette Co. So if you search for Sarah elsewhere in Highland Co, unless Andrew lived in Fairfield twp, then it is as logical that she could have came just across the county line from either Fayette or Clinton Counties. The only Benigar family in 1850 in Highland is John in Fairfield twp. The only Benigar in the transcribed cemetery book is a Civil War marker for Reece Benigar, who is in Fayette Co in 1850. They did not put much info in the marriage records at this time in history. But the place does seem to be Fairfield twp for the location of the marriage.
