Lena,
It looks like the Bass family lived in or near Leesburg. The Hardy families listed shortly after them on the census operated a woolen mill there along Lees Creek on the north side of town. Leeburg is the largest village in Fairfield Twp. but still a small town. There is a branch of the Highland COunty Library there. The main is in Hillsboro. See below:

The best place for research is the library here, also in Hillsboro. Go in the doors near the clock tower:

I have several books of records for the county but other than the 1860 census, I have found nothing on the James Bass family. No marriages or deaths. Only a Lulu Bass (1851-1880) buried in Greenfield.
There is a John Bass family in Fairfield Twp. in 1870. They are noted as black under race.
