Lena,
1870 Census and it appears to be in Leesburg, all noted as "black":

BASS
John, 59, NC, works at brick masonry
Huldah, 55, NC, keeping house
Almira, 22, NC, seamstress
Ann, 19, OH, seamstress
Charles, 17, OH, apprentice brick mason
Mary, 13, OH, at school
Luther, 9, OH, at home
Alice, 7, OH, at home
Hester, 5, OH, at home
PAGE, Henry, 22, OH, day laborer

The only other BASS in Highland that year is Allie BASS,(also black) 22, OH, domestic servant, for the Pugsley family in Brush Creek Twp. This would some distance from Leesburg (perhaps Carmel area) but may be related.

Yes, even the college is open during summer months during weekdays. Check the websites for hours. Both closed Sundays and state holidays.
