Lena, The links are in my first reply for the county library as well as the community college. That is where the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society keeps all of their publications and research materials. There are census and court records on microfilm there also. The county library has less but does have old newspapers on microfilm. Was the James Bass you seek African-American? I don't think the 1860 census noted that he was. I found a James Bass(age 45)in Douglas Co., Kansas on 1870 census. He has sons Moses (12) and Samuel (10) whose ages jibe with those from the 1860 census in Ohio. Also has David (8) and John (3). Also Celia (15) who could be the Ella (4) from 1860. They are all noted as Black and born on Ohio. There is no Sarah with them.
