Seeking any information about the family of Benjamin Acheson/Achison/Ackison, who resided in Knox Twp., Holmes Co., Ohio at the time of the 1830 census. He was also enumerated in 1820 in Washington Twp., Wayne Co., Ohio but I do not believe he moved; rather the county boundary changed in 1825 when Holmes Co. was created. An 1821 deed in Wayne Co. indicates that his wife was Elizabeth Sigafoos, daughter of George Sigafoos, whose family also resided in Knox Twp., Holmes Co. The 1820 and 1830 census suggests that Benjamin was born between 1790 and 1795 and that he had 5 children, as follows: 2 sons, born between 1815 and 1820 1 daughter, born between 1820 and 1825 1 son, born between 1820 and 1825 1 daughter, born between 1825 and 1830 The Sigafoos/Sigafus (and many other spellings) family resided in Bedford Co., PA at the time of the 1810 census, so it is likely that Benjamin also resided in southwestern Pennsylvania or neighboring Maryland before moving to Ohio. Although my search is just beginning, I have been able to find no trace of Benjamin or Elizabeth in census records after 1830. Did they both die in Holmes Co. prior to the 1840 census? Did they move, and if so, where? What were the names of their children? I am descended from Andrew Sheets and his wife Lydia Sigafoos who settled in Knox Twp. about 1825. Lydia was surely closely related to Elizabeth Sigafoos Acheson and Solomon Sigafoos, possibly their sister. Notify Administrator about this message?
