Hi Terry I have the 1854, 1862, 1875 and 1900 maps for Stokes twp and the 1862 and 1875 maps for Paint twp. Do you need something looked up? I talked with the person who actually now owns the John Stroup land( 2nd generation) and he didn't remember any cemetery at the Maxey School but does remember the Buffenbarger cemetery and its location. What year did the DAR read the Crawford Farm Cemetery? The WPA read the cemeteries in Madison County for veteran burial sites but the Buffenbarger cemetery wasn't included, I will check and see if it was read as the Crawford Cemetery. After Peter Buffenbarger died the land belong to his daughters Mary Buffenbarger and Eugenia Crawford. This might explain it being called the Crawford farm. The house and cemetery were destroyed in the late 1950's. I haven't been able to find any record as to whom was buried there. I didn't know the Maxey school bricks were used for the church wall and sign, thanks for that info, it is nice that they were reused. thanks Pat Notify Administrator about this message?
