Pat, you've been very helpful and I'm hoping you will do me one more favor. I think I mentioned that, in the 1850 census, Joseph and Jane (nee Denton) Stroup were listed as follows: Dwelling 62, Family 62 PHIFER - Abraham (64 yrs), Ann (51 yrs), Stephen (19 yrs), and Missouri (16 yrs) Dwelling 63, Family 63 STROUP - Joseph (53 yrs), Jane (43 yrs), & children Dwelling 65, Family 65 HUSKINS, Amos (52 yrs) & children Dwelling 66, Family 66 SLAUGHTER, Peter (55 yrs) & family Joseph and Jane Stroup moved to Pike Co. Mo. in the fall of 1853, so they shouldn't show up on your 1854 plat map. However, I'm wondering who Abraham Phifer and Peter Slaughter's immediate neighbors were in the 1854 plat map. My reason for asking is this: When I look at the 1860 census, I find: Paint Township, London P.O. Dwelling 797, Family 844 PHIFER - Abram (74 yrs), Stephen (29 yrs), Alice (21 yrs) Dwelling 798, Family 845 DENTON - James (50 yrs), Druzilla (47 yrs), Matthew (9 yrs), and James M. (18 yrs) Stokes Township, South Solon P.O. Dwelling 1030, Family 1030 SLAUGHTER, Peter (64 yrs) and family I'm hoping that you will tell me that J. or James Denton was an immediate neighbor of Abraham Phifer. (I've got my "wishin' cap" on.) Why? Because if you do, I'll run over to the LDS Family History Center and see if I can find a record of a deed between Joseph and Jane Stroup and James and Drucilla Denton. I never bothered to research, before now, who Joseph sold (or gave) his property to when he left Madison Co. But I have a hunch that he either sold, gave, or rented his Madison Co. land to none other than his wife's brother, James Denton. If I confirm that he did, then I think I have a pretty decent argument for claiming that Jane (nee Denton) Stroup and James Denton were two of the three children that the recently widowed Sarah (nee Huston) Denton took back Madison Co. after Jonathan Denton's death in 1811. I looked elsewhere for a list of Jonathan and Sarah (nee Huston) Denton's children and only found one other person who has collected their names (James, Jane, and Elizabeth ... the same that you shared with me. But no mention of their basis for that claim. I have James Denton's obituary which confirms that he was one of the three children, but it doesn't name his siblings. Thanks, Terry Notify Administrator about this message?
