T: Hmmm, I remember seeing that name somewhere. Oh well, I didn't have her as John Stroup Jr's first wife, but will add her now.
P: found a P.W. Denton on the Paint twp map 1875 believe his name could be Paul.
T: I think he was Peter W. Denton, son of James and Drusilla (nee Peterson) Denton. B. ca. 1835, md. Mary E. Thompson, 1 Dec 1859, Madison Co.
P: would you have a William Stroup( Strop) who married Nancy Blue in your list. could have been married in Ross or Fayette County OH?

I went out to LDS Family History Center today. Read will of Skinner Hutson, leaving everything to wife Jane, and will of Capt. James Kilgore, written in 1871 (before wife Sarah died, recorded after his death which was after Sarah died. No mention of Jane (nee Denton) Stroup, so I'm going to have to claim that she was Sarah Kilgore's daughter by prior marriage to Jonathan Denton, ... without any proof to back it up. Darn.
re: John and Mary Stroup.
No will in either one's name. However, there was a deed dated May 30, 1824, (recorded July 7th 1824), recording John and Mary's sale of 400 acres to John Jr., Joseph, David, and Jacob Stroup for sixteen hundred dollars. The total acres was all one piece of land, initially obtained by John Stroup with two land warrants which are available through http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ Deed witnessed by William Stroup and Samuel Harrod, J.P.
I didn't have time to explore deeds any further, but am guessing that John and Mary continued to live on the land while their four sons farmed it, until John and Mary died. In 1875 plat, David still holds only 311 acres of the original 400. I'll conclude my Stroup research in Madison Co. with that.
