I must have been brain-dead from the drive through L.A. traffic to the LDS Temple.

re: John and Mary Stroup.
No will in either one's name. However, there was a deed dated May 30, 1824, (recorded July 7th 1824), recording John and Mary's sale of 300 acres to John Jr., Joseph, David, and Jacob Stroup for sixteen hundred dollars. The 300 acres was initially obtained by John Stroup with one land warrant which is available through http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ 1824 Deed witnessed by William Stroup and Samuel Harrod, J.P.

I didn't have time to explore deeds any further. They owned at least another 100 acres initially obtained with a second land warrant, and I don't know how or when they disposed of that. In 1875 plat, David holds 311 acres, which I assume includes the 300 that John and Mary sold to four of their five sons. (William, who witnessed the 1824 deed, was the fifth son.) I'll conclude my Stroup research in Madison Co. with that.
